Özyeğin University Hosts the Third Edition of the “Hospitality Pioneers in Türkiye” Biennale
Özyeğin University hosted the third edition of the “Hospitality Pioneers in Türkiye Biennale,” a distinguished series honoring the individuals who have shaped the history of Turkish tourism. Organized by the Hotel Management Department at Özyeğin University, the biennale paid tribute to Halit Narin, the visionary founder of Martı Group, who launched one of the first resort hotels in Türkiye and has guided the industry for over six decades. The event took participants on an exciting journey through the rich history of Turkish hospitality.
The Memory and the Future of the Sector Together
The Biennale opened with welcoming remarks from Prof. Barış Tan, President of Özyeğin University; Prof. Özge Samancı, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences; and Oya Narin, Chairperson of Martı Hotels & Marinas. The ceremony continued with a short film chronicling the history of Martı Group. Following the screening, the program ensued with a panel titled “The Past, Present, and Future of Turkish Hospitality.” Moderated by M. Teoman Alemdar, Founding Director of the Hotel Management Program, the panel brought together distinguished industry leaders, including Vahap Munyar and H. Ferit Volkan, who shared their experiences, reflections, and memories with participants.
After the panel, participants were invited to explore a new exhibition highlighting Martı Group’s remarkable 60-year journey, from a modest summer club in Marmaris to one of Türkiye’s most iconic tourism brands. The exhibition, on view at Özyeğin University’s Çekmeköy Campus for the next two years, traces the evolution of Turkish tourism in chronological order, offering visitors an immersive experience through the industry’s milestones and enduring legacy.
