Prof. Ali C. Beğen Becomes the First Representative from Türkiye Elected to the Prestigious Internet Architecture Board (IAB)
Prof. Ali C. Beğen, a faculty member in the Computer Science Program at Özyeğin University, has been elected to serve a two-year term on the Internet Architecture Board (IAB), the premier technical advisory committee of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and the Internet Society (ISOC). As the first representative from an organization in Türkiye ever elected to the prestigious IAB, Prof. Beğen joins a distinguished cadre of global experts from institutions and companies that define the cutting edge of Internet technology.
Shaping the Future of the Internet
As a leading authority in the global internet ecosystem, the IAB plays two critical roles:
- Architectural Leadership: The IAB provides broad and long-range architectural input into the IETF’s standards-setting process, advising on technical direction, coordinating major Internet initiatives, and ensuring the Internet’s continued evolution as a secure, resilient, and global network.
- Internet Governance and Oversight: The IAB plays a central role in Internet governance, overseeing the Internet Research Task Force (IRTF), managing the IETF’s relationships with key international organizations, and providing strategic direction for the Internet’s protocol registries. It also serves as the appeals body for the IETF standards process and confirms appointments to IETF leadership (IESG).
