As part of Özyeğin University’s 2026 Summer High School Research Program, seven high school students took part in an interdisciplinary research project examining AI-powered Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites through the lenses of cybersecurity and information technology law.
Mentored by Asst. Prof. Başak Ozan Özparlak, the project “AI in Space: Cybersecurity and Law for AI-Based LEO Satellites” has been successfully completed following an intensive two-week research experience. Throughout the program, students explored the use of artificial intelligence in space technologies and examined the cybersecurity risks associated with LEO satellite constellations from both technical and legal perspectives. They compiled their findings in a comprehensive project report and documented their research experiences throughout the program in project journals.
The program was further enriched by an online presentation from the Turkish Space Agency. Students also visited our research laboratories, Information Security Center, OzUBEX, and Technology Transfer Office, gaining firsthand insight into ongoing research activities across the University. Supported by faculty members, researchers, and doctoral and undergraduate students from across disciplines, the program provided young researchers with a research-driven, interdisciplinary learning environment where they could explore the intersection of technology and law.
